Sarcoma Cancer Ireland Launches Two New Family Support Grants

New initiatives will provide practical and emotional support to families affected by sarcoma across Ireland

Sarcoma Cancer Ireland has announced the introduction of two new support grants aimed at helping families navigate some of the most challenging aspects of a sarcoma diagnosis and bereavement.

The charity has launched a Play Therapy Funding Grant and a Funeral Grant, expanding the range of practical supports available to patients and families impacted by sarcoma throughout Ireland.

The new initiatives reflect the organisation’s ongoing commitment to supporting not only those diagnosed with sarcoma but also the loved ones who are affected by the emotional and practical realities that accompany the disease.

Supporting Children Through Play Therapy

The newly introduced Play Therapy Funding Grant will provide financial assistance towards accredited play therapy sessions for children whose parent has been diagnosed with sarcoma.

A cancer diagnosis can have a profound impact on the entire family, particularly children who may struggle to understand and process complex emotions. Play therapy offers a safe and supportive environment where children can express their feelings, build resilience, and receive age-appropriate emotional support.

Helping Families During Bereavement

Sarcoma Cancer Ireland has also introduced a once-off Funeral Grant of €500 for eligible families who have lost a loved one to sarcoma.

The grant is intended to provide practical financial assistance during an already difficult and emotional time, helping to ease some of the immediate pressures faced by bereaved families.

A Commitment to Whole-Family Support

Commenting on the launch, Sarcoma Cancer Ireland said that supporting families extends beyond medical care alone.

“We recognise that sarcoma affects entire families. These new grants are designed to provide meaningful support during some of life’s most challenging moments, whether that means helping a child access emotional support through play therapy or assisting a family following the loss of a loved one.”

The organisation hopes the new initiatives will help ensure that families facing sarcoma receive compassionate support when they need it most.
