SHINING A LIGHT ON SARCOMA

Resource Hub

Reliable, plain-English information about sarcoma, gathered in one place.

When you are first diagnosed, or supporting someone who has been, the amount of information available online is overwhelming — and a great deal of it is out of date, written for a different health system, or simply frightening. This hub brings together what we think is most useful, written in language you can actually use in a hospital corridor.

What You Will Find Here

Diagnosis & Tests – how sarcoma is diagnosed, what each scan and biopsy involves, and what to expect at each stage.

Treatment Overview – surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapies and clinical trials, and how a treatment plan is put together.

Specialist Information – how sarcoma care is organised in Ireland, where the specialist centres are, and how referrals work.

FAQs – straight answers to the questions we are asked most often.

Glossary of Terms – the words you will hear in clinic, explained in plain English.

How to Use This Section

You do not need to read it all, and you do not need to read it in order. Many people find it easier to look up one thing at a time, ahead of an appointment or after one. Print anything you find useful and bring it with you.

An Important Note

Everything here is general information. It is not medical advice, and it cannot take account of your particular diagnosis, your test results or your general health. Your own sarcoma team knows your situation and is the right place to bring your questions. If you find it hard to ask those questions, or you come away from appointments unsure what was said, talk to us — helping people prepare for appointments is something we do often.

Can’t Find What You Need?

Sarcoma has around 100 subtypes and we cannot cover them all. If you are looking for information on a specific subtype, email support@sarcoma.ie or call the Support Line on 085 769 4115 and we will help you find a trustworthy source.
